It all started when…

My mom used to make my birthday cakes every year. In fact, I remember being 18 and sad that she no longer made cakes for me! Once I had children, the urge set in to bake and decorate their cakes. In about 2010, my aunt hired me to bake and photograph winning state fair baking competition recipes for her company, The Blue Ribbon Group. It was then that I made my first pie and I was hooked. I started with pre-made pie dough, then moved on to making my own, and then I started experimenting with different designs for decorative pies. I can’t draw or paint very well, but give me some pie dough or frosting, and I can make pieces of art.

Three years ago I found myself baking so much, and getting such rave reviews, that I realized I could make a side business out of baking! Thankfully, my husband had experience starting a business and is a graphic designer, so I had his help with a logo and branding. It’s been quite the adventure. My family loves all the extra treats around the house, and the kids have tried pie so many times that they went from refusing to eat it to now asking me to bake pies for them!

My favorite part about Sugarplum is working with all the fantastic clients who have blind trust in my artistic abilities. Often times they will give me a general color scheme or theme, and then they let me run with the design. These are always the best projects and I love pushing my abilities to make them something truly memorable and unique.
